張中白教授先後畢業於成功大學地球科學系及台灣大學地質研究所。民國85年在教育部以及法國政府經費補助下，進入巴黎第六大學(居禮大學)攻讀構造地質博士，於民國90年取得學位，回台服務。回台後先後於台灣大學地質研究所、中央研究院地球科學研究所、成功大學地球科學系、中央大學太空及遙測研究中心從事博士後研究工作，並於民國92年起聘為中央大學太空及遙測研究中心助理教授，民國95年升等副教授，民國101年升等教授。 張教授主要專長為計量構造地質學，並將此方法應用到地表變形以及台灣造山帶的構造演化研究。近年則積極投入西藏高原及其周邊地區的研究，組織並帶領台灣團隊，開啟我國研究喜馬拉雅山的新頁。此外，張教授亦積極推動遙測技術於地球科學之應用，嘗試結合衛星科技解決地球科學及環境相關問題，包括地震、火山、斷層活動及人為活動所引發之地表變化及其意義。
